Starting a Micro ISV
Do you want to start a Micro ISV but don’t know where to begin? Today you can start a Micro ISV for less than $200 in a couple of hours. Below are some resources that can help you get started:
Hosting
- GoDaddy: The first thing your Micro ISV will need is a domain name. I’ve been using GoDaddy for years and they’ve always provided me with good service.
- Host Gator: Once you have a domain name you’ll need to set up hosting. If you’re just starting out then I’d recommend a shared hosting plan because they’re cheap and will be perfect for what you want. The advantage of using a company like Host Gator is that they provide shared hosting, VPS and dedicated servers so you don’t need to switch companies as you grow.
Blogging/Content Management System
- WordPress: The #1 blogging platform and a pretty good general content management system. Unless you have a specific reason to use another platform I strongly recommend you use WordPress.
- Theme Forset: Once you’ve installed WordPress you’ll want to change the default theme. I recommend staying away from free themes as they are often slow, have compatibility issues and try to sneak advertising onto your pages. Theme Forest has a good selection of themes at an affordable price.
- Mail Chimp: Email is one of the best marketing tools around but dealing with SPAM compliance can be a headache. Mail Chimp has a free plan that allows you to grow to 2,000 subscribes and 12,000 messages per month before you need to start paying.
